This world without you in it
This world,
without you in it,
no longer fits around my shoulders
like a blanket I used to pretend was a cape, and I
could be a superhero
who saves the day,
then builds a fort to crawl under, hide, rest,
and wake up again with it snuggled warm
beneath my chin.
But since you are leaving
this world,
I will tuck you in
as you are reborn; a newborn
in a new land.
I could not carry you there.
